Back with their first new music since Grinning William a year ago, Blood Wizard reflect on childhood with 'Bee Sting'. Split into two corresponding halves, vocalist and guitarist Cai Burns opens the work with hazy recollections of his upbringing, noting little pieces pulled from memories of his own and from others. Slightly melancholy and playfully off-kilter, intricate guitar work and a supportive rhythm section cradle Burns' subtly effected vocals before the second section takes over. Lead by Faye Robinson's endearing lyricism and a strikingly catchy vocal melody, the climax of 'Bee Sting' is triumphant and nostalgic, tapping into innocence, curiosity and escapism. Accompanied by a suitably glitchy video by James Winstanley, 'Bee Sting' marks a joyful and accomplished new era of Blood Wizard. -Holly Mullineaux
